David Aprahamian Liddle and the Braille music system

Organist David Aprahamian Liddle recently got in touch about a film project he has been involved in.  He told me:

The American film director Michael House is working on a documentary film about Louis Braille and the Braille music system.   He has interviewed me and many other blind musicians for this project, which is still in the making.   Michael filmed some of my recent concert in Derby Cathedral.   I asked if I could have any material which he won’t need, so as to put something onto my YouTube channel.   Michael has put together a lovely little video of one piece, showing Les assisting me at the organ, and even my guide dog Zak stretched out beside the console!   I am delighted with it, despite some imperfections.   I hope you enjoy it too.

Here’s the video:

David is a busy international concert organist and composer – read his biography on his website here.   His website also describes the challenges he has faced as a blind organist, and the process of transcribing organ music into Braille, in a series of articles – including this one Blind organists, and the challenge of church music making.  And you can join his mailing list, which is always an interesting read.
