I was pitched into the role of church organist with little preparation, and zero repertoire. I was told that it took at least a year, if not eighteen months, to develop a reliable pedal technique – and I am finding this to be true. So although I’m introducing pieces with a pedal part into the services gradually, as my confidence grows, I have needed some convincing and appropriate manuals-only voluntaries to be going on with. Here’s a starter list of what I have found useful.
